History of Pathumthani

Originally, Pathum Thani province was settled more than 300 years since the reign of King Narai of Ayutthaya. On the year 1659, Mungnanthamitr herded the Mon family in Motama city to escape from the Myanmar's war and migrated to the land of King Krungthep Dvaravati Sri Ayudhya under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King. The king narai was gracious to those Mon family and allowed them to colonize at the "Sarm kok" district. Since then, the "Sarm kok" district has prospered up respectively. 

Afterward, in the land of King Taksin of Thonburi. The Mon people were migrated from Myanmar to be under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King for the second time. They were allowed by the king to colonize at the "Sarm kok" district as well. 

And final. In the reign of King Rama II Lertlah. There was a massive migration of Mon people from the "Motama city" to "Siam" and colonize at the "Sarm kok" district again as well.

Therefore, from the small village "Ban Sarm Kok" has become a "Mueng Sarm Kok" city in latter-day.

The King Rama II Lertlah was so attentive with the Mon people perpetually. Once upon a time in November 1815, he was at the "Sarm Kok" city to visit his population and stayed at the pavilion on the left side of "Chao phraya" river close to the “Sarm Kok” city. There was made "Mon people" were pleased immeasurably and concerted dedicate the lotuses for worship his majesty king. There was made a lot of sentimentality to the king. Consequently, he gave a new name for "Sarm Kok" city as "Lotus" city on August 28, 1815. With the divine grace of the king, the name "Lotus" city has befallen since then. In the year 1918, the king Rama VI ordered to use "province" instead "city" and change the city's name from "Lotus" to "Pathumthani".

Afterward, in the reign of King Rama VII. He ordered to coalesce the "Thanyaburi" city with the "Pathumthani" province together in 1932. “Pathumthani” province has been divided into seven districts as a current.

Since "Pathumthani" province was named by the king Rama II Lertlah. It was developed respectively. It was a wealthy province. It has own unique culture that is the proud of the population and be the province in the metropolitan area have flourished even more in the nearby future.
